Early in the morning, the village fishermens are fishing on the shore. Among them is Colas. Lisa, the widow Simone's daughter, comes from the poorly maintained house looking for Colas. When she finds him, they confess their love in peace. Their dance is interrupted by the widow Simon, who opposes their love, since Colas is a rather poor boy. She calls the submariners for help, then makes it clear to Lisa that she can't marry Colin because he's too poor. In order to save her property, Simone will find a rich bridegroom for Lisa. She puts Lisa to work and sends her into the house.
Fishermans shows their meager catch to Simone, who sells fish at the market every day. There is no way she can earn enough from stealing lately to support herself and her daughter. Meanwhile, Colin secretly loads the crate with stones and fishes, so that his catch looks mighty rich. He brags about it to Simone, who is immediately delighted, and even confirms to Colin that, by all appearances, he is a suitable suitor for Lisa. She pays to Colin for the fish, but when she tries to lift the crate, it is too heavy because of the stones in it. Simone finds out that Colin has tricked her and she became furious. Fortunately, Colin manages to escape. Simone goes to the market with a poor catch.
Villagers come to the market, and Colas joins them. The friends invite Lisa who dances with Colas. The rant is interrupted by the widow Simone, still furious with Colas. She gets even more angry when she sees Lisa with him. While trying to separate them in every possible way, which she does not succeed very well, Lisa throws a fishing net at Simone. Simone gets completely entangled in it, the villagers secretly mocking her try to rescue from the tangled web, but Lisa and Colin, as apparent saviors, tangle the web around Simone so much that they can no longer rescue her from it. Lisa and Colin run away, and the villagers call the craftsman, blacksmith and fishing net maker Thomas for help.
With considerable effort, Thomas manages to cut Simone out of the net. When he frees her, he asks her what happened and Simone tells him that her own daughter Lisa and her beloved Colas have entangled her in the net, but that there is no way she can let Lisa marry Colas, because he is too poor. After the death of her husband, the savings disappeared in a flash, and recently there are not enough fish to make any money with. Thomas, who likes Simone, tells her that he is rich, that he has a son named Alain, for whom he is looking for a bride. So he suggests to Simone that they make a bargain - the engagement and wedding of Lisa and Alain. When he dangles Simone with a generous purse of money, Simone happily accepts the bargain.
Now Simone is frantically looking for Lisa. When she finds her, she tells her that she has found a groom for her and can therefore prepare her for his arrival. Distraught, Lisa tells Colas what happened, and he immediately concocts a plot to trick Simone and prevent Lisa's marriage to Alain. Lisa agrees to Colin's script.
Simone prepares the garden in front of the house for the arrival of Alain. When everything is ready, Thomas arrives with a cart of money, but Alain, Lisa's suitor, is nowhere to be found. Out of fear, he hid among the money. When Thomas finds him, he encourages him to propose to Lisa. It turns out that Alain is a spoiled, shy and a little disturbed son of a rich man who does not fit in the situation. Much to Simone's surprise, Lisa takes the initiative and gets engaged to Alain. Simone and Thomas make a wedding bargain and agree not to postpone the wedding, but to marry Lisa and Alain on the same evening. Thomas and Alain leave to prepare for the wedding and find a notary.
Panic reigns in the market, as Simone has to prepare Lisa for the wedding. She orders the boys to decorate the house and garden and prepare food and drink, and asks the girls to help her prepare Lisa. She brings her wedding dress from the house, which is very old-fashioned. Simone and the girls dress up and do Lisa's makeup.
One of the boys breaks the news that Thomas and Alain are coming. While Simone greets them and meets her daughter's future husband, Colas's script begins to unfold in the background. Lisa secretly wears tacky make-up and arranges her wedding dress in tacky fashion. At the same time Colas secretly waits for the notary in front of the village, ties him up, dresses in his clothes, disguises himself and goes to the wedding.
The wedding begins. Simone and Thomas call the bride and groom, but when Alain sees Lisa wearing too much make-up, she is so scared that tries to run away. Fortunately, Simone catches him and the wedding ceremony takes place, in which a masked Alain appears as the notary. Everyone thinks that now Lisa and Alain are married.
The wedding celebration is suddenly interrupted by a storm that rages against the sea and the village. A strong wind uncovers roofs and throws boats onto the shore from the sea. Alain flees to an unknown place, and Lisa and Colas take advantage of the storm's fury and hide under a boat that was thrown ashore by the wind.
After the storm Simone and Thomas frantically search for Lisa and Alain. They assume that the newlyweds wanted to be alone, so they decide to leave them alone and stop looking for them. A spark of love now ignites between Simone and Thomas. Sitting on the boat under which Lisa and Colas are hiding, they promise each other their love. However, Simone tells Thomas that she will only marry him if, according to tradition, he richly rewards her. Thomas tells Simone that he will come back for her soon, to take her richly to his estate, and that Lisa and Alain should get Simone's house as a dowry.
Simone cleans up the aftermath of the storm in front of her house. When she lifts the boat and finds Lisa with Colas under it, she is surprised and angry. Lisa asks where Alain is. At this moment, Thomas returns with his son, whom he considers to have run away from his wife. Alain tells that he does not want Lisa as his wife, and Lisa also makes fun of Alain. Simone, who has seen what Alain is like and who has now been promised wealth by Thomas, tells her that it is quite clear to her that Alain does not want Lisa and Lisa does not want Alain, so for the sake of future marital happiness with Thomas, she suggests that they not be forced to keep the marriage. Simone and Thomas only see the problem in the fact that the marriage is officially concluded. At this moment the boys bring a tied notary to the market, which they found in a bush by the side of the road. He tells what happened to him and announces that the marriage between Lisa and Alain is invalid. Enraged, he recognizes Colas among the boys and says that he attacked him, tied him up, dressed in his clothes and played the role of a notary without official authorization. Simone laughs conspiratorially, while Thomas and the notary glare angrily at Colas. Simone resolves the dispute with his proposal: the notary should make money by concluding a double bargain. He should marry Lisa and Colas and her to Thomas. Thomas sees what his son is like and urges him on, and Simone does a national dance in flippers in honor of Thomas.
The raining begins. Simone and. Thomas, and then Lisa and Colas, who dance for everyone present in honor of the favorable outcome of the story.

The play, set in Verona, Italy, begins with a street brawl between Montague and Capulet servants who, like the masters they serve, are sworn enemies. Prince Escalus of Verona intervenes and declares that further breach of the peace will be punishable by death. Later, Count Paris talks to Capulet about marrying his daughter Juliet, but Capulet asks Paris to wait another two years and invites him to attend a planned Capulet ball. Lady Capulet and Juliet's Nurse try to persuade Juliet to accept Paris's courtship.
Meanwhile, Benvolio talks with his cousin Romeo, Montague's son, about Romeo's recent depression. Benvolio discovers that it stems from unrequited infatuation for a girl named Rosaline, one of Capulet's nieces. Persuaded by Benvolio and Mercutio, Romeo attends the ball at the Capulet house in hopes of meeting Rosaline. However, Romeo instead meets and falls in love with Juliet. Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, is enraged at Romeo for sneaking into the ball but is stopped from killing Romeo by Juliet's father, who does not wish to shed blood in his house. After the ball, in what is now famously known as the "balcony scene," Romeo sneaks into the Capulet orchard and overhears Juliet at her window vowing her love to him in spite of her family's hatred of the Montagues. Romeo makes himself known to her, and they agree to be married. With the help of Friar Laurence, who hopes to reconcile the two families through their children's union, they are secretly married the next day.
Tybalt, meanwhile, still incensed that Romeo had sneaked into the Capulet ball, challenges him to a duel. Romeo, now considering Tybalt his kinsman, refuses to fight. Mercutio is offended by Tybalt's insolence, as well as Romeo's "vile submission", and accepts the duel on Romeo's behalf. Mercutio is fatally wounded when Romeo attempts to break up the fight, and declares a curse upon both households before he dies. ("A plague on both your houses!") Grief-stricken and racked with guilt, Romeo confronts and slays Tybalt.
Montague argues that Romeo has justly executed Tybalt for the murder of Mercutio. The Prince, now having lost a kinsman in the warring families' feud, exiles Romeo from Verona, under penalty of death if he ever returns. Romeo secretly spends the night in Juliet's chamber, where they consummate their marriage. Capulet, misinterpreting Juliet's grief, agrees to marry her to Count Paris and threatens to disown her when she refuses to become Paris's "joyful bride". When she then pleads for the marriage to be delayed, her mother rejects her.
Juliet visits Friar Laurence for help, and he offers her a potion that will put her into a deathlike coma or catalepsy for "two and forty hours". The Friar promises to send a messenger to inform Romeo of the plan so that he can rejoin her when she awakens. On the night before the wedding, she takes the drug and, when discovered apparently dead, she is laid in the family crypt.
The messenger, however, does not reach Romeo and, instead, Romeo learns of Juliet's apparent death from his servant, Balthasar. Heartbroken, Romeo buys poison from an apothecary and goes to the Capulet crypt. He encounters Paris who has come to mourn Juliet privately. Believing Romeo to be a vandal, Paris confronts him and, in the ensuing battle, Romeo kills Paris. Still believing Juliet to be dead, he drinks the poison. Juliet then awakens and, discovering that Romeo is dead, stabs herself with his dagger and joins him in death. The feuding families and the Prince meet at the tomb to find all three dead. Friar Laurence recounts the story of the two "star-cross'd lovers", fulfilling the curse that Mercutio swore. The families are reconciled by their children's deaths and agree to end their violent feud. The play ends with the Prince's elegy for the lovers: "For never was a story of more woe / Than this of Juliet and her Romeo."

The first scene is a prologue to the second scene
Margherita Gauthier is sick and penniless, on the verge of survival and abandoned to the streets. On the street. One day she meets the famous Parisian courtesan Madame Duvernoy, who offers her a good income if she becomes a courtesan. Margherita accepts the offer and her existence soon improves. The young nobleman Armand Duval notices her on the street, falls in love with her, and since then watches her every night on her way to courtesan parties. One day, Plesis, a good friend of Armand's, invites Armand to join him in a celebration organized by Marhgerita, which Armand happily accepts.
Second scene
Salon at Margherita Gauthier in Paris. Margherita organizes a celebration in her elegant salon, which is attended by Armando Duval among the crowd of guests. At the celebration, after a long time, he is only offered the opportunity to introduce himself to her. While the guests are having fun, Count Perregaux confesses his love to Margherita, but she rejects him. The insulted Baron later refuses Margherita's request to toast the guests. Without hesitation, Margherita asks Armando for a treat. At the height of the party, Margherita gets sick, so she asks the guests to go to the next salon and leave her alone to recover. While the guests are having fun in the next room, Armand takes the opportunity to confess his affection to Margherita. At first, Margherita mocks him, but when she realizes that Armando's love is sincere, she realizes that she herself is not even-keeled. The party is over, and as the guests are leaving, Margherita gives Armand a white camellia as a farewell, with the intention of returning it to her before it fades away. Margherita is left alone. Tired of celebrating and feeling sick, she falls asleep. Armand appears in her dream and gives her back an unwithered white camellia. Margherita realizes that Armand has awakened feelings of love in her.
Third scene
Because of her love for Armand, Margherita gives up her life as a courtesan and decides to live together with Armand. Armand's sister's fiance finds out about her past, which breaks off the engagement. Father Duval goes to Margherita and Armando with the intention of saving his family's honor.
Fourth scene
Margherita and Armand live in a house in the countryside, far from the previous world, only for their love. Armand learns from his maid Nanina that Margherita is mortgaging her property for the sake of an expensive life in the country, so he rushes to Paris to arrange it. Margherita is visited by Madame Duvernoy with the intention of inviting her to a party, but Margherita flatly rejects her and reveals her love for Armand. While Margherita is left alone, Armand's father, Monsignor Duval, visits her and asks her to leave Armand for the honor of Duval's family. Although Margherita tells him that she has renounced her former life completely and forever, her father insists. Margherita is moved by his request, so despite her boundless love for Armando, she agrees to divorce. She decides not to reveal the real reason to him. When Armand returns, he finds her writing a letter from which he learns that Margherita is leaving him with the intention of returning to the life of a courtesan. Desperate, Armando is visited by his father, who asks him to return home. Armand finds an invitation to a party at Madame Duvernoy's on Margherita's desk, and angrily rushes off to get revenge on Margherita.
Fifth scene
Monsignor Duval meets with his daughter's ex-fiancé and explains to him that he managed to restore honor and respect to the family, so he renews the engagement. Margherita is visited by Count Perregaux, who has learned of her divorce from Armand, so he asks for her hand in marriage. Desperate, Margherita agrees to the engagement and accepts the Count's engagement ring, intending not to be overcome by the temptation of meeting Armando again.
Sixth scene
Madame Duvernoy's party is full of guests. When the celebration is in full swing, Armand also arrives. When asked where Margherita is, he replies that he no longer cares about her, so he prefers to try his luck at cards with his friends. Margherita, wearing a red camellia, arrives at the party with Count Perregaux. Armand keeps winning at the card game, so he rudely asks Margherita to return to the country with him, saying that he now has enough money for a life together. Count Perregaux also joins the party. When the whole group goes to another room, Margherite secretly asks Armand to meet alone. She asks him to leave the party. Armand sees an engagement ring on her hand, so out of jealousy, in front of everybody, he insults Margherita and throws the money at her feet. He realizes his dishonorable act only after his father warns him. When Count Perregaux invites him to a duel, Armand repents and leaves the party, humiliated by everybody.
Seventh scene
In a duel, Armand wounds Baron Perregaux. Monsignor Duval visits his son Armand and reveals to him the truth of why Margherita left him. Armand rushes to see the sick Margherita in Paris.
Eighth scene
A turbulent life and a long, debilitating illness weakened Margherita's health to the point of exhaustion. Doctor Agenor gives her only a few hours to live. Alone and abandoned, she reads a letter from Armand's father, in which he informs her that he has revealed the whole truth to Armand. Armand rushes to Margherita in the last moments of her life. They confess their love one last time, then Margherita dies in his arms.
